Probably because the accustic version was made purely by the singer of the later one whilst the updated with Johnston guitars version as well as the singing with even more Johnston guitars ones were like a douber decker and had full or part Johnston involvement so he owns the copyrights to the later 2 versions only whilst the original was fully Donato Paternostro made or whoever it was who did the singing on the duo made version.
The reason why the 2nd revision wasn't ousted as well was it was Johnston's own instrumental revision with his guitars over it so he owns copyrights to that version.
The singing revision also was a Johnston Guitars one so I don't think that was ousted even though it had the orignal versions artist singing on it.
It's all to do with them not wantng to pay royaltys to BMI, Copyright, ASCAP and the others for the charge to Donato Paternostro to use his instrumental version I guess whilst with Johnston guitars and him just singing WWE probably does own that one as the man is singing for a WWE version.
If he sung on his own version that would have probably been ousted too but as he sung on a Johnston remake of his tune the rights are with Johnston for the track.
It's all copyright gone mad nonsence in a nutshell for this case to do with who played what version.

I want to add more to this... It isn't always that they don't want to pay the fees. Sometimes it can be the song writer and/or publisher doesn't sign off on a new license in time or at all. Everytime a new release (DVD, network etc) comes out they have to sign off on it. If for example there is a rush on a DVD and there is a deadline to get the signatures back and they don't get it the DUB becomes the song.
