Xylot Mystery: "The Days of My Life" aka Chris Jericho's WCW Theme
Alright, we have an issue. This song is no longer on Chappell. There is a track titled "All The Days of My Life" but the title is different.
It's recently come to my attention that a song was released in 1988 by a band called Mammoth called "All The Days".
Sound familiar? Yeah... We have it listed on the site as "The Days of My Life (A)". I believe this information is INCORRECT. To make it even more confusing, in one of Chris Jericho's books, he mentions that it's from "the TBS music library".
So we have it listed as being from Chappell, Jericho says it's from another source, and it's very obviously a song from an 80s rock band.
So my question: What in the fuck exactly is going on here? lol Can anyone prove that it was EVER from Chappell? Because if not, I'm changing the title of it for every listing it appears in and giving credit to Mammoth, the original artist.

To be fair, Jericho could have easily assumed it was from "the TBS music library", if such a thing exists, based on the fact that he saw it on a TBS commercial IIRC. Doesn't mean it's true. But yes, this is a mystery...

Very interesting. There's been a lot of mysteries for wrestling themes.

Not a mistery at all (for me),
I think Jericho was right in what he wrote. He pointed out TBS (Turner Broadcasting System), which acquired Chappell in 1987. As for the title, I don't know, don't forget that production music can change the titles of the song and viceversa. For example, "Broken Out In Love", which it was originally from Jingle Punks until WWE bought the rights and it was renamed as "Live In Fear". Another example can be "Short Term Memory", formely from VideoHelper until WWE bought it and renamed it as "#Emmalution".
By the way, that's all the info I could get. I think Craig can explain it better.

Go look at my comment in the Chris Benoit WCW Misc listing. Also the song is still there. But it's under Chappell AV.

Good call, Afro. So it's a mainstream song that became a production track. But going by that Benoit listing, am I correct to assume that you think we should list the lyrical version as the original song, and the instrumental version as production? Of course, in the notes of the lyrical version, we point out that it's also a production track.

That sounds like a good idea but I want to hear what Craig has to say on the matter. He's a big WCW music guy and I think his opinion would be better on the subject.FafAngryProphet wrote:Good call, Afro. So it's a mainstream song that became a production track. Personally, what I did for the Chris Benoit listing was to show there was a mainstream release and a production release. Some people might find that stupid to have two songs that are basically the same but I feel it's there for reference if anyone needs it. Like I said it's something most might find interesting. It gives the listing a Wikipedia type feel.

I never thought it was stupid. I said it doesn't make sense to have the same song there (the one from the stock library and the other one from the mainstream release). I think it'd be better to have one file (it doesn't matter which one) and add to the notes also available under mainstream release / stock music as (Name of the track) under the album (album name). Sorry if my message was misunderstood. I don't want to being rude with you.AfroOod wrote: That sounds like a good idea but I want to hear what Craig has to say on the matter. Re: Xylot Mystery: "The Days of My Life" aka Chris Jericho's WCW Theme
I don't think it's a mystery at all, Jericho (and 95% of wrestlers) wont have a clue about production music so will say things like "TBS music library".
Let me put it this way:
CHAPAV 11 (first released 1986) was first used 2nd Apr, '95
CHAPAV 12 (first released 1986) was first used 16th Dec, '90
CHAPAV 56 (first released 1992) was first used 13th Jan, '93
CHAPAV 62 (first released 1993) was first used 21st May, '94
CHAPAV 71 (first released 1994) was first used 29th Oct, '94
CHAPAV 75 (first released 1994) was first used 14th May, '94
CHAPAV 81 (first released 1995) was first used 19th Aug, '95
CHAPAV 97 (first released 1996) was first used 4th Jan, '97 (might be slightly earlier as I'm working on 1996)
I think that clearly makes it obvious that they used the production track. I would bet all my wrestling items on it. It would not make sense for WCW to find an old song on CD and take the time to contact Zomba Records to obtain the instrumental to use, when it was available in a production library which they was clearly using in order.
Around the same time they used "The Days of My Life" they used "Devistator (a)" from Chappell, within the same time of them using "Cruising Around" and "Tonight" from Chappell they started using "Warped Mind".
Yes the track was originally a mainstream track bought out by Zomba Records. Zomba own Chappell so acquired the track among others from Mammoth and another band for 2 albums. It was these albums used by WCW. Zomba then merged with BMG who had some been bought by Universal.

Re: Xylot Mystery: "The Days of My Life" aka Chris Jericho's WCW Theme
The CD cover said BMG as the brand.
BMG Zomba now known as UniPPM are the holders of Chappell.
CD Cover also said Zomba Productions. BMG Zomba/UniPPM are Zomba Productions.
Said CD was the original 80s release, but track was always BMG Zomba owned from the start.
WCW either used a single if it even come out on Single, or they used the Production track, they never used the version on that CD for sure, but that CD is a BMG Zomba release in the first place though, their own library brand on the library is also known as Chappell as in what Craig said.
So BMG Zomba = Mainstreem as their own alias, Chappell (Western) & AV as their production music library alias. Expect other stuff from the Mainstreem by BMG Zomba to be on Chappell too, as it's perfectly logical and normal.

Actually BMG was not with Zomba at that time, rather is a Zomba production but distributed by BMG. It would be like the WWE MusicGroup productions being distributed by Columbia Records.

Re: Xylot Mystery: "The Days of My Life" aka Chris Jericho's WCW Theme
Edit: Hmm, only the first 5 tacks on the AV library disk were Mammoth, maybe it's not a complete re-release afterall, maybe it doesn't prove anything either about Chappell AV being a BMG Zomba branch of Chappell all along from the start, unless if Patrick McManus also had mainstreem on BMG Zomba, then it would probably prove a bit more that AV were always a subsidery of Chappell owned by BMG Zomba, even before they brought out the rest of the catalogs, including Normal Chappell themselves in the end, before everything were then brought out by Universial.
Something does smell fishy about the entire thing though. I do think it's logical that this could have been what happened, that AV as well as being a subsidery of Chappell, were actually being run by the guys at BMG Zomba, before the place even become BMG Zomba, after their own full catalog buyout, as obviously they would have wanted to buy out Chappell Normal, since they were owning their own AV brand on Chappell and they wanted the full thing.
Things didn't go to plan though, since Universial brought them out in the end.
Who cares what really happened anyway, it's only pure speculations at this point, but it is a bit fun trying to suss it out I guess, especially if you add into the mix, Turner's 80s involvement in all of this as well, as he could have been a major mastermind in all this library planning as well holding Chappell Normal at the time, especially with Turner Music Library also existing in it's own right at that point as well.
Turner could have brought BMG Zomba out, which BMG Zomba were allowed to keep theirn own name, then Zomba might brought out their Chappell AV subsidery to their owners brand of Chappell Normal, then they buy the rest of the shares of Chappell Normal, plus all the Misc catalogs and it become fully BMG Zomba owned and got renamed to bmgzomba.com, now Universial have brought out all of BMG Zomba to finally become UniPPM.
A lot of fishy stuff happens in buisness and library music isn't an acception to the rule, anything happens in this dog eat dog buisness world afterall, it's obvious that both Turner got a big payout by BMG and BMG got a major payout by Universial, if the buisness fishyness also amounts to the legitly done buisness sence that is, all coming from a bit of library info and the back of a CD and an info based on Turner owning Chappell we have at this point.
As you can see, I'm really having a ball with this one, running with my own big speculation about it based on all the infos, in this Xylot Mystery.
