Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
Sorry for the delay in an update.
I've tried to reason with HostGator, but unless I show them this site itself (without the login restriction), they want all of the file deleted. That's over 40 GB of files. Having this site hidden behind a forum login is partly responsible for this outcome.
So far, the only feasible idea I can come up with, is backing up all of the files locally somewhere (which would take a long time), and coming up with a secondary plan after I delete the files on HostGator's servers.
If I use a service like RapidShare, etc. there are severe limitations to download capacity, and any and all expenses would come out of my own pocket... which I just can't afford. And it would also take forever to upload that way.
As it is, re-uploading all 40GB of themes even back to where they are now, would take days, if not weeks.
I'm all out of options. For now, XT stays up, but only as a theme counts archive... for now. At some point in the near future, i'd like to have some other plan. The thing is, I am severely limited in funds. I can run this site off the cloud, but I did the calculations and that would cost thousands of dollars per month. I could get a virtual private server or dedicated hosting with HostGator, but that costs nearly $100 per month and I have bandwidth/storage limitations.
I need to find time sometime this week to download all of the themes. I have a full-time job that limits my time and I'm in the process of moving in with my girlfriend.
I've had a lot of personal things going on lately, the worst of which is an ongoing court battle to fight against my ex-wife, who wants to move herself and our kids from Massachusetts to Texas. So time has been really limited for me as of late. Sorry.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
One idea I just came up with is using XT as a torrent storage and search site, where users would host the files themselves, and the site would simply host the torrents. It would give me an opportunity to research how to implement magnet links, what is required for hosting torrents, etc. Could be fun. I could seed the files initially, then stop them as I reached about a 4 or 5 ratio. Hmm...

Nah, that wouldn't work, because eventually, most themes would not be seeded, and the whole site would be in shambles again.

It appears as if the themes are back up, so get what you can while you can.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
My idea would be to re-vamp this entire site, in which files would NOT be hosted here at all.
The site has a good community forum wise, so perhaps promote it more as a discussion/forum place like most other theme sites, except keep the main page there for theme counts ONLY.
This way you can open the main page up to everybody once again and not have to worry about production sites getting on you about having their files on your server. This should also get you more traffic to the site and hopefully some more members joining the forums.
Oh and when I say make the main page like a theme count site, I mean actually providing dates for when certain themes debuted, and if it's available on a CD, link it to iTunes/Amazon/where ever... and if it's a production song, include FULL details on the production track, including, Title, Library, Album, Composer, (possibly album artwork) etc...
Sure, this will be a lot of work, but there's a number of good people here who could get it started.
Keeping a friendly main page like you have is great but re-vamp it. Open to the public, don't host files, and if people need recordings, or certain themes, they can simply request it on the forums, or look for someone who's already posted it in the theme contributions section.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
This^
We don't need a site with the tracks on really. The forum has a really good theme community as it is so it can live just as good as ever if it was just an info site.
You can even get Dean to help you. He said he wanted his own info site now he gets his chance to improve on one thats already here.
For the themes we can use the forum.
Making the site a theme counts site would also mean we have enough space to add theme counts from even more wrestling promotions around the world and gives space to even give theme counts for other stuff like MMA, Boxing, Darts and even TV Shows that have good themes.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
How about Box.com: https://www.box.com/pricing/ It's only 13€ per month.
There is this site called Animerunkkari ( http://animerunkkari.com and http://box.animerunkkari.com/ ) which hosts AT LEAST 40GB worth of anime subbed/dubbed in Finnish and as far as I know, they use that service and it has worked just fine. So maybe we should give it a try or is there something that I don't know about why we couldn't use it.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
I like your idea, Steveo, with Xylot being just a theme counts site, open to the public, with our discussion forum (still invite-only). Non-members won't have things like Preferences, Playlists, etc. (unless we do temporary Playlists for anon users, etc.).
This is a good idea, and I'm leaning toward it. It wouldn't be that big a deal to get more information into the database for themes, like you suggested.
I am going to set a deadline of tomorrow night at midnight Eastern Standard Time for everybody to download whatever themes they can/want.
I might even set the Contributions forum to invite-only (with all of us automatically invited, of course), so that new users have to earn the ability to see the actual themes sharing.
How does that sound to you guys?

Steveo's idea is great, with the main site being a Wrestling theme info site... But how about also completely changing the look of the main site if it's possible?? I like the one now, but if it's just going be a info site, then why not change the look of the main site?I mean it would be something different and maybe even a nice change
Just an idea.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
We won't, that's the catch...I think. Or we could get them via forum, but the question is that how many people are nice enough to fulfill someone's request for real. Yeah, it will work for a month and then people'll get lazy. My point is that I don't really see that someone will upload themes such as recording of Chyna's 1st theme (that she only used once) for a new user who just got here and mainly just requests stuff. What about if I would ask for all LiveWire themes? How many people actually got those? How many people actually saved those? How many people actually are nice enough to upload them for me? Got the idea? Yeah, it won't work, at least that's my guess...mrkoolnerd wrote:sure but still where will we get our themes?
TerranRich, did you look into that Box.com thing?

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
I'm glad my idea has been considered
I mean this site could hold a LOT of info about the themes used over the years, and if something works out in the future, maybe thrown in the ability to add a link to a recording, or a link to the actual song.
I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to do something like Craig does with his site. He links every theme he features on his site to a place to buy the song, like iTunes for example. He also hosts samples of the songs at lower bitrate, which maybe in the future it's something Xylot could do.
I just think to settle things down for now and to get the host off Rich's back, going the theme count route for now is a great start and we can worry about getting samples or recordings of stuff back up at some point if feasible.
I like this idea too. I mean the main site will need to be changed up a little bit due to not having the ability to play themes, etc and is going to need some modification to the database to include all the additional information that I mention, such as date the theme debuted, album information, and production song information.Captain Charisma wrote:Steveo's idea is great, with the main site being a Wrestling theme info site... How about we try the reducing idea. There are a lot of repeated themes. I'm not sure how popular the japanese and indy theme sections are but we could rid those until we think of a better solution.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
How about we use the main page to play 10 or 30 second clips of themes since it'll mainly be used for information. The full version I'm sure can be requested or found on youtube. The main site can be used (Until a better solution is found) as a quick sample part of the site while the forums is the main place to go for full themes to be downloaded by the users rather than downloading from the actual place we were using originally.

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
this really sucks that this site's fun ride is over, at least it's better this way then the other way, aka the US Govenment seizing the site way.
i wouldn't mind if we could just relaunch as separate sites for separate themes for companies
one would be for WWE themes, another for TNA, and another for ROH/Indys/Defunts/internationals companies. and they can be managed by three different people. and the theme's would be on different and separate servers instead of one main server.
but for now on, i'll have to get my Wrestling theme fix from Youtube.
and for Mainstream songs used as themes, just put a listen on Spotify link for those in countries where spotify is available

Re: Xylot Themes About to Go Down
This is your first post in two years of being a member here? Seems fishy, seems like you're one of those guys who got in just to get themes and leave. You've obviously never posted in the forum before, which means you haven't contributed anything.Awe101 wrote:How about we try the reducing idea. There are a lot of repeated themes. Anyway, I'm with Steveo here, perfect suggestion. However, I also like the idea of putting samples of the themes on the site, just so people can hear a clip of a certain theme. That would be helpful if it became purely an info site, especially when it comes to themes that have several different versions.
For example, if you have something listed like:
Big Show - "Big"
Big Show - "Big V2"
...and so on...
If someone gets on here for information (if it's open to the public), they may not know the difference between different versions. That's where clips would be useful.

Dean, looks like it's time to bring back FuZionX.
It was a good run guys. Loved the site and wished I would've been able to get a couple more remixes up before the site went down.
