Do you think Jim Johnston has been kinda lazy lately?
In the last few months a number of superstars have been called up to the main roster they have been given production music as themes. I am not saying its a bad thing because if they are good songs is that someone may post the song here on xylot in a matter of hours but if they all had Jim Johnston makes we could be waiting months or even forever to get some of his makes. But the only people recently who have gotten some of his makes are people who are very big superstars already of people who are getting major pushes.
The WWE the music volume 9 was supposed to be a 3 disk set, which some of us were hoping of getting of the older themes we really love but now those hopes are now crushed because it is now a 1 disk set I was hoping for the StrikeForce girls in cars instrumental to be released finally but it might never happen now.
I hope soon that WWE will release more themes and that Jim Johnston will hopefully give new superstars more themes because WWE says he is makes most of the music that they use but as of lately its benn mostly production.
When I recently seen Mr.Kennedy he said that Kevin Dunn is the one who chooses if tracks make the cut.

Well I don't think that Jim Johnston decided will wrestler have his own theme or production one. After all WWE pays to Johnston for making songs. So I think that writers or people who makes wrestler's gimmick decided will he need his own theme. Normaly jobbers get a production song because it's just more cheaper than making a new song for guy who maybe doesn't have a future. So I don't think that Johnston even decides what comes on new CD. It is just what sells, why put a theme on CD what nobody wants. So it's money what rules.

well they have been been giving lots of people production songs and it doesn't mean they are all jobbers, Brian Kendrick, Primo Colon and Evan Bourns have production music and none of them are Jobbers. Remember Jeff Hardy used Loaded for many years and he is no Jobber.

Well Seeing as half of Legacy uses one of Jim Johnston's recent songs Priceless I don't see Dibiase,Rhodes or Manu getting new themes and Sim Snuka doesn't seem to be getting a JJ make because its a production....
Also If WWE the music Volume 9 has walmart bonus tracks I hope one is Natalya's new theme

I would definitely figure on the Legacy getting their own theme soon.

What do you mean "Lately"? New wrestlers who aren't pushed hard off the bat always get production music. It's nothing new. It saves time, plus that's three times the music you nagging theme collectors would be begging for (if every new character got a Johnston made production). And as already mentioned it's not Johnston's control to choose what goes on a CD. They pick the themes of current/established popular stars because they can't sell themes that were used for one or two weeks by a wrestler/gimmick no one remembers. It's simple advertising. It would be really nice if JJ got to market a "Best Of" or "Personal Rare Favorites" album for his digression but WWE doesn't seem to put any attention on the heads behind their video/audio production.
You guys should be happy we get at least one music CD a year. Otherwise it would just be video games, DVD's & tron rips.

Production themes are given to jobbers usually, if it goes to a main star it is usually because JJ hasn't set up his own theme for them yet and is working on one (with the exception of Evan Bourne and Brian Kendrick where their themes actually suit their gimmick so there is no need to change). And above all that it is cheaper to purchase production themes rather than make your own songs.

Yep. This is another one of those things where is doesn't matter what the WWE does, people will be bitching about it. I mean now the WWE is no longer aiming for the 18-34 demographic, what will happen when it does again? That's exactly right, someone will complain.
And look what happens when the WWE leave a track off a CD? I mean, not all themes can be released, and I think still we are lucky to be getting games and trons, they don't have to come out either (well the trons don't anyway), but thats my input into the subject.

I think every year we get at least somewhat of 2 CD's Because almost every year they have a cd that comes out and then we have the Game that comes out every year also and the sometimes has themes that havent been released.

Just stop this nonsense about stealing already stolen property.
If it's leeching, ban him. If not, then not and forget about it.
Also I'd like to see that forum first. Links/pics/proof or it didn't happen.

Re: Do you think Jim Johnston has been kinda lazy lately?
It seems some people don't really appreciate what goes in to putting tracks together. It's not just a case of whacking it all into a bit pot and just seeing what comes out. Back in the day, when pretty much all entrance themes were produced by JJ they hardly ever debuted a new character or superstar, if they did it was no more than a few a year perhaps which gave JJ and the WWE a relatively large amount of time to produce a great track that fitted that superstar perfectly. In the modern day product there are new superstars debuting every other week which limits the amount of time the WWE has to prepare and master tracks properly. So, NO it's not a case of JJ being lazy, it's a case of Vince McMahon and the WWE trying to pump more 'superstars' into the business only to have them dumped in the trashcan two months down the line!

Exactly which is why we get a hand full of songs that (JJ puts a lot of time into) are never released on CD (video games shouldn't/is not an alternative).dazgarcia2 wrote: So, NO it's not a case of JJ being lazy, it's a case of Vince McMahon and the WWE trying to pump more 'superstars' into the business only to have them dumped in the trashcan two months down the line!

Did we forget that the great Hardy Boyz had a production theme 100% of their run? "Loaded" is production and was used almost up until the very end of their run together (I say almost becuse Jeff Hardy's theme was used a few times at the very end).
Whether a superstar or team gets production music isn't always indicative of their jobber status.

I'm a Prince fan. For 30 years, he's put out a CD every year. A couple times, 2 in a year. Except 1983, when he was filming Purple Rain. And everytime he releases a CD, within a few months fan are bitching about when's he gonna release some new music. Be happy with what you get. It's not like when we had to wait after the release of Piledriver for a new WWE album.. And if I recall wasn't that WrestleMania The Album?
After all the years JJ's been making music for WWE, cut him a little slack. He's still not as lazy as Dale Oliver. TNA hasn't even been around 10 years and Oliver has been doing his "ripoff" themes since day one.

ThemeAnthology & Mr. 74, you both have very goods points.
To be honest, I've been feeling like Johnston was lazy lately a little bit myself, but after reading everything on this thread up to this point, I have to say . . . you guys have good points--esp. when comparing him to Dale Oliver. -ha-

I'm happy we get one CD a year. This was actually pretty good. But if your gonna push a 2 disc album, DO IT BIG!!!! DON'T RECYCLE!!! But hey. I think the author's wish could be granted. Seeing that the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania is coming up. They GOTTA do it big. The other 2 CD's will probably be released. (Just personal hopes) They could make another collection album and call it....hmmm......
World Wrestling Entertainment Presents:
WRESTLEMANIA
25th Anniversary - The Music
They did the same type of thing in 2002 when they did Forceable Entry and then Anthology...That was big! How come they can't do it again?.........
I remember the days when the product was good enough for them to say "Nobody does it like the WWF!!!" (Usually refering to PPV) What happened to that. All you gotta do is "Get the F Out" and replace it with E. WWE needs to step their game up. Because they lied to fans who research about these albums. They hyped it and then changed their minds. I also remember the days when Vince would say stuff like "there will be no bait-and-switch, ladies and gentlemen!" and "We said we were gonna show you (blank) and that's what you're gonna see!" I've always hated when they'd do that. They'd put certain themes in their commercials and they'd be messed with when it comes to the album. (WWF The Music Volume 2 and 3 specifically)
WWE needs to step their game up and this is one of the ways they could do it. By improving the released media product. But hey, it's better than nothing at all. They did pretty good with the basic album for this year. But the Legends album sucked overall. I loved the Khali theme! Remember this, every time they release themes in games nowadays, they release ARENA VERSIONS!!!! They started doing that in 1999 with ATTITUDE! That was COOL!!!! So I'm glad someone mentioned the video games. And who ever mentioned who WWE is trying to reach. Great point! (you know I'm talkin about you PETER!)
But I'm glad I came across this topic. EVERYONE HAD A GOOD POINT HERE. I appreciate EVERYONE who put their two cents in.
