Why did YOU start collecting themes?

It's a simple question, really. All of us got into this theming thing for one reason or another, sometimes thinking "Wow, that song sounded really cool; I wonder if I can get it?" or for reasons more detailed than that. So, in the wake of the best theme-download site (as opposed to just forums) since WrestlingMedia.ru closing down, I'd like to know what got all of you started.

Me, I started "collecting" themes when I simply recorded songs from various video games (Attitude, Anarchy Rulz, etc.) onto audio cassette; Yeah, it was stupid and pretty 80's of me, but my computer was absolute junk back then.
I then started ripping the CDs and downloading songs because I had an X-Box and RAW 2, and wanted to get the tracks there to use for the game guys and custom guys; that's also why I started editing.
I also like using the songs as background tracks in other X-Box games with the Custom Soundtrack feature, and occasionally use about 25% of the tracks I find for my own custom wrestler themes in RAW2 and that god-awful WrestleMania 21.

I think mine was from hearing WWF Piledriver that a friend of mine owned, I then also bought WWF Slam Jam CD single in 1992 and use to always use the music from WWF Royal Rumble from the Sega MegaDrive for my WWF Hasbro figures. So I figure it was around then that I started collecting, Ive bought every WWFE, WCW and ECW release since and dont plan on stopping. My collection has grown dramatically lately.

I think that I started with Volume 2. That was the first wrestling album/CD that I ever got.

I recall my first memory of becoming interested in theming was when the WWF magazine used to promote the official WWF fan club. I remember constantly looking at the magazine wishing i could get my hands on the audio cassettes that came along with the member ship. I wasnt actually interested in the fan club itself just the theme casettes. I then went on to buy the singles (Slam Jam, WrestleMania & USA by Hacksaw) when they came out. As well as the WrestleMania album. From there I ordered the Full Metal album which at the time was advertised again in the WWF magazine, which took about 4 months to come for some reason :? I've never looked back, and have bought everything the WWFE has released since then. Special thanks goes to a great mate aswell for helping me grow my theme collection massively over the past year!

Listening to the midi themes of the wrestlers on the character select screen for the megadrive games and wanting to heat what the real versions sounded like. Also a lot of the older themes sound unusual/unique which is a type of music I like.

I think for me the way it was, it's that i used to rent WWF tapes back in 1995, when i was 8 (never had a chance to buy 1 except for a WWF Supertape compilation) and from most events, i could remember theme songs and that stood out in my memory, so a few years later when i bought Super Nintendo WWF games, i heard the similarity, and also found songs i really enjoyed (such as Crush's Kona theme, or Rick Martel's model theme) so i set out online to search ... that's when i happened to stumble upon Cyclone2k's site ..

Started collecting themes on the net for over a year after I copied the data from the Anthology CD on my media player. Sometimes it's an alternative to listening to music which is on the charts and what nots.

I first became interested in themes when I bought WWF: The Music, Volume 2 when it first came out. Oh yeah, the olden days. ;) I bought every single Music Volume up to and including ThemeAddict (Vol 6). After ThemeAddict came out, I decided to start working on a wrestling themes website and Xylot Themes was born.

Well I used to play WWF No Mercy on N64 Emulator back in the days. The audio quality was crappy and themes were only sad loops, but I didn't care and they were good anyway. I think Corporation's theme was my favorite on the game (even the lyrics sounds like No hands in hell because of that crappy quality =p ). I found some theme songs on the net by using poor programs like Kazaa or something like that and I was fine with that for while. When WWE.com some how made easier to watch titantrons on their site I started to watch them and listen themes back in 2004. Even the whole thing is kind of odd because I remember clearly that I didn't find any titantrons on WWE.com before 2004, maybe I was just stupid and didn't find or they just updated their site or something but I think somebody who have collect titantrons for long time knows better than me. Anyway I wanted those titantrons from WWE.com on my computer because they were good and I want to listen those themes as well. I have always liked titantrons since I played WWF No Mercy what had just only poor pics, I still loved those. So I also wanted to see those old titantrons as real videos. So I collected titantrons like 2 years and at the time I started to be good with Sony Vegas editing software and used to make wrestling videos with that and I used titantron material in the videos but only problem is that the audio of the titantrons was crappy and every single time I had to go on the internet and search the HQ theme. I couldn't stand it anymore and I saved some themes on my computers what I used usually and still I had to go on the net and find some themes for videos. So I thinked that what the hell, I just download all themes what are possible to get so I don't have to go on the net to search those and since after all, themes are all cool and I like to listen them. But I think my main reason why I collect themes is that I like them and I use them in videos. So my story incl. the reason why I started to collect titantrons as well. =)

CD's I own are Vol.4/5/Aggression & Forceable Entry but I still didn't collect themes until 2006, but I didn't go hardcore until 2007. When I found this site/forums in Feb. of this year, it got me more motivated to share my collection on youtube and other forums.

Main reason why I collect wrestling themes: They're a great alternative to the stuff you hear on the radio/tv etc. Johnston/Hart really have their own unique sound and I personally think the world at large underrate their contributions to the music world. But since it's wrestling, the music is automatically associated with a stereotypical stigma and people don't bother to check em' out.

I started collecting in 2003, i first got the WWF Forceable Entry Album and WCW Mayhem The Music albums, i then became obsessed with them, a mate then copied WWE The Music Volume 5 for me, i had always had an interest in the themes from the games and wanted them for myself and to use for wrestling at home (yes i pretended to be Triple H and Stone Cold, etc. lol).

And once i found out i could find the themes on the Internet i spent hours downloading them from Limewire and various sites and my collection started growing very large, i was intent on making a website for the themes i had but didn't know how, so i started a MySpace page which i had up on three seperate occasions. Now i have around about or over 3000 themes (havent counted them in a while) and i now finally have my own site i have had up for a round about a year now.

Wow i thought the site was long gone! :o Thats very interesting Daniel... and i believe it was the 2002 version, summer 2002 to be correct. It was like a jackpot when i saw the model's theme, Doink, etc! The site layout was a light blue ish if i remember right. Also what was the deal with another guy also being called cyclone2k but saying he wasn't affiliated with the site?

Three words: WWF Royal Rumble. This SNES game got me started on theme loving. I used to sit there for 2 minutes just listening to Ted DiBiase's theme. But I had a crappy 24k modem and didn't think about collecting.

Next step: Here Comes The Pain. This time it was Undertaker's "You're Gonna Pay". This time I had access to a good connection and started searching with Google. Didn't find much, but I was happy.

Next step: Our highspeed internet connection. I discovered Youtube, Rainiac666, ThumbsUpGamer and ThemeAnthology. Over TA's account I found XT. And now I'm here, just your regular Money Inc. and Priceless mark.

I started collecting themes when I got Volume 4 on it's debut day in 1999 and since on that date I also got my first PC.

I hooked it up to the internet and thought I wonder what would happen if I typed in http://www.wwfthemusic.com.

A load of cassette recorded themes came up.

Thats also why I want MSB to re-release the tapes since his a member here, it will give me the memories of that site since I lost most of them in multiple hard drive crashes. I have reasons behind some of my madness, you know.

Powerbomb Wrestling, Cyclone2k 1st Dennis Version, D'lo My Hero, OWO, Sledgehammer Themetitan, that HBK Usernamed Theme Website and many others too many to mention, helped broaden my horizons futher.
