CFO$ vs. Dale Oliver

Post by bey74 »

I apologize if this has been discussed before but I know everyone pretty much rags on CFO$ for their themes in comparison to the themes that Jim Johnston has done. I really don't think it's fair to compare them. Jim Johnston is responsible for some some of the most memorable, maybe even iconic, entrance theme in wrestling history. No one can follow that guy.

But if you compare CFO$ to Dale Oliver....CFO$ aren't that bad in my opinion. While it true that even Johnston has remade real songs, his never seemed like cheap knockoffs the way that Oliver's do. None of the TNA themes are really great. Some are OK, at best.

CFO$ are in no way great. Their themes are all just 30 to 60 second songs looped to 3 or 4 minutes. But I like a few....Paige's theme for one is better than anything I've heard from Dale Oliver....or Serg Salinas for that matter....though I did like the Aces & Eights theme as well as Tara's.

Just my 2 cents.

Again, really sorry if this is the wrong section or if this has been discussed before.

I agree that Dale Oliver's will probably be remembered more than CFO$'.....But I disagree that his are more memorable than Jim Johnston's.

But hey, to each his own. Not everyone has the same taste in music.

LMAO.
Out of CFO$ or Dale. I prefer Dale Oliver. He (with & without Serg) makes better music to enjoy.
CFO$ 2012-2013 was great. The most recent CFO$ themes (the ones that loop after about 45 seconds) I hate.

Oliver has made great music for TNA. I have no arguments to disagree with this

#ImWithDale

Now, let me talk about CFO$. The guys hasn't found a "way" to do music, I don't disagree about their music but it's pretty repetitive. They do some minus 1 minute song and then they say - "Okay, we're done", and they loop it. I think that's a lack of creativity.

I agree 100%.

I really have nothing against Dale Oliver....or Serg for that matter. Some of their themes are pretty good.

As for CFO$....I can't think of a lot of themes they've done that I really enjoyed. I like Paige's theme....but nothing else really comes to mind as outstanding. And the looping....the worst example I can think of off the top of my head is Eva Marie's. The damn thing is just a chorus that is loop like 50 times. Sad.

While Oliver and Salinas aren't horrible, I place them in a distant 4th....behind Jim Johnston, Jimmy Hart & JJ Maguire and Jimmy Hart & Howard Helm...

Then again, I have been a wrestling fan since the 80's so maybe some of it has to do with the nostalgia aspect....

No one is better than Jim Johnston when it comes to making wrestling themes. The only person who even comes close is Jimmy Hart.

lol That's my random input.

Dale Oliver is better than the CFO$ (there are like 10 artists working for the WWE under this name I believe and they produce short looped themes only).

That's what I think too. Jim Johnston composed thousand of themes and most are great. His work matches the wrestler most of the time. He's also one of the most heard artist in the world because millions of persons in the world watch WWE. As he's my favorite music composer, I think he's the best of all.

I could repeat what was already said, but it's pretty much the truth. I would also place Jimmy Hart, JJ Maguire and Howard Helm after him.

Even though I am a fan of Jimmy Hart, I would agree that Johnston is one of the best.
The theory could go though that if you chuck enough shit at the wall some will stick. So therefore Johnston has created hundreds, possibly into thousands of tracks so of course some will be great many will be bad. The great thing was many suited the characters.
Then again Jimmy Hart, mainly while working with Maguire was his best work. When he started with Helm it got lazy with typical drum beats and repeats with the few actually being great.
I would marginly put Johnston in front of Hart, only mainly due to some of his greats like Undertaker, Goldust, Brood, Bret Hart (although with Jimmy Hart).
As for Dale goes, I have never really gotten in to his music, there is the odd few which are alright but never anything fantastic.
CFO$ I would not have a clue about but seems like for todays standards sub-par.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's hard to believe the same guy that co-wrote some really great WWF themes co-wrote the mostly forgettable WCW themes. Although The Four Horsemen and Raven themes were pretty damn badass.

Can't argue with this order if rating them.

1) Jim Johnston

2) Jimmy Hart

3) Dale Oliver

4) Kromestatik (When they didn't have stupid amounts of members, including production artists and Johnston on their team not doing solo with RAW and Calvin Raines FCW being my faves by them in this longer tracks and fewer members era. I'm just guessing the Calvin Raines thing I still think it's by them but possibly under this former setup as it was a long and decent rap track for their standards.)

5) CFO$ "Their new name when Production and Johnston guys joined making this entire massive team version doing short themes on a loop which are both good and bad depending on if the Jingle Punks guy and Johnston were working with them on the track or not"

Unknown MISC wrestling made artist enterties is my wildcard 6th entry in joint 5th place with CFO$ as I do like some Old English/Other British Countries/Irish/Mexican and Japanese wrestling made themes by the unknown misc no name enterties too so gotta have with in 5th with CFO$ as although I do like some the artist is completely unknown same as what CFO$ artists are goign to work on what theme is unknown too so it's the same thing as CFO$ in a way as CFO$ is unknown enterties what artists are doing the job on what theme anyway so this is no different so joint 5th for me.
