Google Play Music shutting down
I just got an email tonight from Google saying that they are shutting down the music store on Google Play in 30 days, with Google Play Music itself going away by the end of the year. They are promoting that you can transfer your library to YouTube Music, which of course is streaming only. If you have music bought from Google Play, or there's something there you want to buy, you should make sure you download it to you computer now so you don't lose access to the files and be limited to only streaming them in the future.

Re: Google Play Music shutting down
Google Play Music was always behind the rest of the field. Moving everything to YouTube Music makes sense from a business standpoint, but highly doubt it's going to be enough for them to get to the heights of Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL.
This leaves Amazon Music as the sole digital download service, excluding Bandcamp, right?

iTunes still exists, at least here in the UK, anyway.

You can purchase and download albums (not individual tracks) from Tidal in the US. Not sure about other countries.

Ah, I keep forgetting it exists. Point still stands for mp3 downloads, Google Play Music and Amazon Music were the only ones that provided mp3s while iTunes does m4a.Jerichoholic wrote: ↑August 8th, 2020, 10:56 amWhat about iTunes?Leaf wrote: ↑August 8th, 2020, 1:00 am Google Play Music was always behind the rest of the field.
